Trauma / PTSD
BCA Mental Health Therapy works effectively regarding trauma. It identifies the specifics of the impact of the trauma and the best way to address the traumatic events. Often the best approach for dealing with the memory of the traumatic event is by learning memory management skills. Other times, when a person is stuck, such as having a PTSD response, with an overwhelming emotional surge related to thoughts of the trauma, then an EMDR approach is incorporated. The BCA perspective identifies three different EMDR approaches: 1) Trauma specific EMDR which works on reducing or eliminating the glitch response of an overwhelming emotional power surge related to thoughts of the trauma. In basic terms, Trauma EMDR reduces or stops you from an automatic emotional reaction triggered by thinking of the trauma. 2) Relational trauma EMDR which works with building up a neuro-network to improve your abilities and resources, including memories, to more effectively manage trauma. Again, in basic terms, it is Relationship EMDR to improve your strengths and resources to manage the emotional energy triggered by the trauma. 3) Peak Performance EMDR which works to identify thinking habits that trigger unwanted emotional energy that inhibits or redirects your efforts of being in the zone for optimal peak performance. Basically the Peak Performance EMDR does the opposite of Trauma EMDR by creating a path for an emotional power surge that can be harnessed.
While I have had experience and success in all three types of EMDR, I really only claim expertise in the Trauma EMDR.
