The BCA Outlook blog discusses specific mental health issues with an empowering twist. The twist is using a BCA Holistic Mental Health Therapy perspective and approach which radically redefines mental health, starting with defining emotions as power. A groundbreaking shift in understanding how our brain works and the real role emotions play in our lives. Time to embrace our emotional powers.
The first step is just saying that all emotions are okay. Normal. Innate. “I’m emotional and that’s okay.”
The second step is to start seeing the difference between emotions and thoughts. “I’m angry and that’s okay. That is an emotion.” “I’m stupid, and … wait, that’s a thought.”
The third step considers if we should resist or accept our emotional powers. The challenge is to redirect our resistance toward our thoughts and actions. And continue our acceptance of all emotional powers.
The fourth step is validation, to let someone know that you heard them. “I heard you say…” begins the dialogue to discover our connections and relationships. Validation is to just listen without agreeing, judging or accepting.
